We are planting 3,000 trees this Christmas

This December Carden Park’s greenkeeping team are busy planting 3,000 trees in their pledge to become increasingly more sustainable in their practices. The trees will stretch across a huge 6 acres across the Cheshire estate. The bulk of the trees will be planted on the Nicklaus golf course, with the larger more mature trees finding their home on the Cheshire golf course. The trees will take a strong team of 15 an estimated 8 days to plant.

The team have sourced a variety of trees indigenous to the area from a local nursery. This includes planting:

  • Oak
  • Hornbeam
  • Hazel
  • Hawthorne
  • Silver Birch
  • Field Mable
  • Scotts Pine

The carefully selected variety of species aims to attract a wider range of insects to make their home in the trees. In turn, improving the already attractive proposition to increase our growing UK bird population. You can often discover a wonderful collection of bird species at Carden Park, including; Woodpeckers, Kestrels, and Barn Owls to name just a few.

Asides from the wildlife the new trees will attract, and of course, the beauty that comes with being surrounded by nature provides, the project will also help improve the environmental conditions surrounding the hotel. By having a healthy population of trees across the grounds, they are able to absorb a lot of carbon emissions and intercept several other harmful pollutants from the air.

This is just touching the surface of the plans to improve our carbon footprint and sustainable practices as we move into 2023. The greenkeepers team have also invested heavily to replenish their machinery fleet with several fully electric machines. Including 10 electric green machines and runarounds. The move to more electric machinery is twofold, as it actually contributes to an improved guest experience as well as a positive environmental decision. A lot of the greenkeeping work must be carried out in the early morning, by having electric machinery is a much quieter process to save disturbance to residents.
