David Harber – Torus

This mirror-polished stainless steel statue invites you to discover the environment through a different reflective perspective. The statue provides a focal point wherever it is placed which transports you through a journey to another world. This sculpture, with one side inlaid in heather-blue Welsh slate, particularly resonates with Carden Park’s surroundings. The mountains of North Wales’ are visible in the distance as you peep through the central viewpoint.

Patrick O’Reilly – A Missing Layer

This thought-provoking sculpture signifies how vulnerable human emotion can be. It serves as an opportunity for hope and resilience conflicted with the openness to hurt we can all experience, as we can see the sculpture’s red heart dimpling within a grasp. With the heart held triumphantly towards the sky in the bronze hand that grips it, it shows that our strength often lies within our vulnerability.

Giles Penny – Man With Both Pieces

A sculpture with contrast; both side pieces created with sharp geometric lines held beside a softer playful torso who’s quest is to find unity. The circular shape is said to symbolise the eternal divine whereas the rectilinear design opposite is there to represent the realities of mortal life. The figure stands strong in between the contrasting two-dimensional shapes presenting a peaceful sense of central poise and balance.

George Triggs – Treeman

Standing just 46cm tall this statue boasts the most beautiful intricacy. The bronze male statue sits cradling a striking gold-leafed tree in between his fingertips. The radiant gold reflects the preciousness of the nature that surrounds us, something that draws parallels to the beautiful setting of Carden Park. Triggs sums up this statue with “ Man’s want and desire for possession juxtaposed against his desire to nurture and care” (Triggs, 2020).

Tessa Campbell-Fraser – Stag

The Stag stands majestically in front of the Carden Park Hotel. This life size sculpture creates a striking likeness to the animal, right down to the movement implied by its stance. Tessa-Campbell’s work is quite literally fit for a queen! One of her notable works is a sculpture of Queen Elizabeth II’s winning horse Estimate and Her Majesty took great interest in all aspects of the creation of the sculpture. You can discover additional pieces of Tessa Campbell-Fraser’s sculptures in the gardens of Carden Park near Chester; Highland Cow, Rabbit, Sheep plus more!

Gareth Griffiths, MRSS – Union 76

One of the most contemporary additions to our sculpture garden near Chester, with its eye-catching blue colour drawing you to the corner of the Sculpture Garden where it’s located. Inspired by Hollywood architecture in the swinging 60s, it oozes the vibrant energy that is synonymous with the era.

Giles Rayner – Water Hut

A sensory experience in the heart of Carden Park’s wonderful Cheshire Sculpture Garden. A simple yet romantic structure that encourages inspiration when you rest within its modern cylindrical dovecote design. It sits within a shallow pool of water which is filtered to trickle down the side of the sculpture allowing for quiet contemplation. The colours of the beautiful copper water hut structure play with the natural lighting of the sky, looking like a completely different piece under the moon compared to viewing the piece in daylight.
